The Food Pantry is operated on the lower level of the building and entry is available on 3rd Street. As of August 2, 2018, hours of operation are 9:30am to 11:30am and 5pm to 7pm every Thursday (except Christmas). For many families, it provides critically needed staples that supplement their limited resources.
St. Andrew’s serves clients who live in the city of Elyria and meet the income guidelines set by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. The recipients are limited by regulation to one visit per month. Our process includes taking clients through the pantry and offering them the ability to make choices based on their needs and family size.
Much of the food offered comes to us through Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio – a charitable organization funded by grants from the State and foundations, and operated under Federal and State guidelines. Second Harvest offers us the opportunity to order food for highly discounted prices which enables us to offer variety and options that best serve our community. We are also beneficiaries of Second Harvest’s annual community-wide campaign called “Harvest for Hunger” which collects food and raises funds to stock food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters throughout the region. Any food from this campaign is free to St. Andrew’s.
St. Andrew’s also participates in a diocesan supported program called “2 Cents a Meal.” Half of the money collected from weekly donations goes directly to our food pantry and community meals.
The Food Pantry is a completely volunteer operated program and provides quality food with nutritional value to people in need.
